More people than ever are suffering from this truly debilitating and inconvenient illness which is characterised by bloating of the abdomen and either urgency to go to evacuate, or being totally constipated.
Other Symptoms that are Linked to IBS
There are other symptoms too; for example, most people with IBS are lethargic and seem to need excessive sleep. However they rarely wake up feeling refreshed. They may have stomach cramps, heartburn and wind to add to their misery.
Some IBS sufferers also experience migraines and joint pains. In addition one can be affected by poor memory and poor concentration. There may be temperature fluctuations and restless legs. All in all it is quite nasty.
What Causes IBS
Often IBS is caused by substances that we habitually ingest, but which our body isn’t equipped to deal with. This includes medications, preservatives in foods, chemicals in the water, pesticides etc. Little by little the gut is invaded by yeasts which can take over and cause havoc throughout the body.
Intestinal Yeasts
We all start off with some yeasts inside us along with approximately 400 strains of bacteria, most of which are beneficial to our health. However as we are exposed to chemicals over the years, the beneficial bacterial are gradually killed off, allowing the yeasts to proliferate.
Once the yeasts have got a toe-hold in the gut area they can migrate throughout the body causing sinusitis, itchy ears, fungal toe nails and skin problems in addition to the symptoms mentioned above.
IBS is Curable
The good news is that IBS is totally curable. It is necessary to re-build the beneficial flora in the gut and to eradicate the yeasts from the body. It can take several months to do this, but with perseverance it can be done.
Food In-tolerances
Many people suffer from food in-tolerances they have acquired whilst suffering from IBS. It is necessary to identify such foods and cut them out of the diet altogether. Those people who suffer from the ‘eat and run’ toilet scenario are experiencing an extreme reaction to certain foods. The body is so intolerant to them that it has to expel the food almost instantly.
